As a professional artist, I am aware that we can not move the clocks back on the existence of AI and it's possibilities. For some artists, it could even be an interesting tool during ideation processes, for others it could go alongside their rendering process. But that has to be an individual choice. And can only be a reality if we built up these systems with ethical data.
Currently that is not a given. The datasets include vast amounts of images scraped from the internet without the consent of their creators and rights owners. Which does not just include art, but also medical records, personal photos and much more. That is not okay, and that is why we demand better. No result coming from these systems can be free from these damming truths about its sources.
And furthermore, posting AI generated images without at least reworking them with your own artistic skill puts them closer to commissioned artworks than works of personal artistic endeavour. Which does not gel well with the rules and goals this website was supposed to have.
Artists, please stay strong. Keep creating, bring your ideas to life, enjoy the process and the journey. That alone becomes a force of rebellion against everyone who tells us that art making is dead.
